Why do I need specialist insurance if my home is unoccupied?
Unoccupied properties are often seen as a higher risk, than a property which is occupied regularly. This is because if the unexpected occurs, it is unlikely to be discovered as quickly, potentially increasing the severity of a claim.
Most home insurance policies will provide cover for you, whilst your home is unoccupied, but cover can be restricted to certain events only, or carry with it limits on how many days in a year, or in one event, where cover will be provided if your home is unoccupied. If you own a second home as a weekend getaway, a standard Home Insurance policy is unlikely to provide the right cover.
