Bona Fide Subcontractors?
Most Bona Fide Subcontract will normally have their own Public Liability cover. If they do it is always best to request a copy for your records and also to make sure they have the same or an adequate level of cover for the contract you are working on.
If you have Public and Employers liability then most policies will automatically cover Bona Fide Subcontractors free of charge but only up to a certain amount of payments per year. This is normally set around £30,000. If your payments exceed this amount then you need to declare the Subcontractors to your insurer's. This way should the Subcontractor cause any damage you have the peace of mind that you have the right level of cover even if he does not.
If the Sub Contractor tries to make a claim against you as the main contractor for Injury then your Employers Liability will cover you.
