Own goods
Carriage of goods in connection with your own trade of profession and for social, domestic and pleasure purposes. Excludes the carriage of goods or passengers for hire or reward. So for an example a builder carrying his own tools needs own goods cover as what ever he is carrying is his own tools, or a shop keeper making deliveries of his products to customers only needs own goods.
Haulage
Carriage of goods for hire or reward and use for social, domestic and pleasure purposes. Excludes the carriage of passengers for hire or reward.Insurance companies for the purpose of insurance will class a haulier as somebody who has fixed contracts and is usually only doing 1 or 2 deliveries a day, they will usually know what they are carrying and will know who they are delivering to. For instance, if you have a contact with a furniture shop and you are delivering sofas on their behalf and you are doing no more than 3 deliveries a day you are entitled to buy haulier insurance.
if you don not know what you are carrying and do more tahn 3 drops a day you will need courier insurance.
