DAS Commercial Legal Protection

Commercial Legal Protection is available for all companies regardless of size. This can be a sole trader with one or two employees or a much larger company with a high number of employees.

Businesses of all sizes have to operate in an increasingly complex business environment. In recent years there has been an almost relentless rise in the volume of business legislation from both the UK and Europe. Keeping up with all the recent developments is now a full time job for solicitors and legal expenses insurers. There is also an increasing public awareness of legal rights and a new willingness to take legal action against companies.

Legal fees, compensation awards or an unexpected tax enquiry can all undermine the financial stability of your company. In this changeable business climate a wide ranging legal expenses insurance policy is essential if your company is to protect itself against the potential legal costs it may face. The DAS range of Commercial policies allows you to pursue or defend your legal rights in a variety of situations such as problems with employees, disputes with suppliers and tax enquiries

Claims Example

A policyholder made contact after their accountants received a letter from HM Revenue & Customs regarding an impending Full Enquiry into their business accounts. A Tax Consultant was appointed to help their accountants with the investigation. The case was resolved in favour of the policyholder and the inspector accepting the accounts with no more than a small liability for benefits in kind.

Costs incurred were £1,950 which were covered by legal protection.

A housing association that held a policy contacted us after an ex-employee raised an Employment Tribunal claim for unfair dismissal. A solicitor was appointed to act on behalf of the housing association who made investigations. It became clear that the ex-employee had assaulted a hostel resident in front of witnesses and had been dismissed as a direct result of the incident. The Employment Tribunal found that in all circumstances our policy holder behaved fairly and the claim was dismissed.

Legal Protection covered the solicitor fees of £12,178.
