FairTrades Customer information
Using FairTrades boosts consumer confidence
For many homeowners, home improvement is one of the few ways to modernise or increase living space as moving is no longer an option after the 2009/2010 World financial crisis. Homeowners are building ground floor extensions, loft extensions, converting garages into a fourth room or having a conservatory built to provide that extra living space.
Homeowners looking to engage builders, roofers, pavers, double glaziers or in fact any type of home improvement tradesman should make the FairTrades website their first port of call. Here in Britain, tens of millions of pounds are spent every year on home improvement projects. Thanks to the FairTrades business directory we are helping bring together vetted tradesmen and homeowners, protecting the public from rogue traders every day of the year.
A successful home renovation project hinges on mutual trust and respect
Whilst the homeowner benefits from employing a FairTrades endorsed member in many ways, both the homeowner, and the tradesman they employ, equally appreciate the importance of enlisting vetted tradesmen who uphold the values of FairTrades. The vetting procedure is a key factor to enhancing the tradesman’s reputation and puts your mind at rest as the consumer.
FairTrades members sign up to the Homeowner’s Charter as part of their commitment to the homeowners, and can provide their clients with deposit protection. We recommend anyone having work done on their property to ask for this facility to be made available to them.
Insurance backed guarantees protect the homeowner
We are particularly proud that our members are also able to provide an insurance backed guarantee to their clients. This insurance backed guarantee (IBG) mirrors the member company’s own guarantee, subject to the terms of the Insurance Policy, and provides cover for up to 10 years for the full contract value of the installation for repairs or replacements in the event of the member company ceasing to trade through liquidation, bankruptcy, or death of the principals.
FairTrades members who display the Trustmark logo are able to provide work in progress insurance as part of their IBG, an excellent feature every homeowner should be asking for where possible. So the question is: what next? You as the consumer can use the ‘Quote Me‘ service on the FairTrades directory to obtain competitive quotes direct from tradesmen. You can call our FairTrades team directly to check if a company has maintained their membership of FairTrades and, in the event of a dispute with your Contractor, for a small fee take advantage of the FairTrades conciliation service. Happy home renovating.
