Motor Fleet Legal Protection

Uninsured loss recovery on motor fleet is essential. If you have a fleet with numerous vehicles statistically some of those vehicles are going to be involved in accidents.

If the accident was not your drivers fault you will almost certainly have some uninsured losses to recovery. These are costs to your company that are not recoverable by your insurance company.

These can include:

  1. Excess
  2. Hire costs of a replacement vehicles
  3. Personal injury
  4. Loss of earnings/business lost/income reduced

If you don't have legal protection then recovery of all of the above will become a job for someone within your company .This can be a very long, time consuming job with no guarantee of recovery. Alternatively you can appoint somebody to recover the losses for you after the event a Solicitor/loss company. The charges they will apply will be very high compared to the amount you pay for Motor Legal Protection for with your motor fleet policy.

What is a Minifleet policy

A minifleet policy is designed for the individual or company that owns more than 3 vehicles but less than 5, it allows the policyholder to insure all his vehicles on one policy so there is only one renewal date. If you have more then 5 vehicles you will need a fleet policy and this can be arranged by our business department.

What is a Declaration Fleet?

Declaration Fleet

declaration fleet policy is designed for companies that have a large fleet which is constantly changing. The policyholder completes a quarterly or 6 monthly declaration instead of having to inform the insurer each time they change a vehicle. This helps limit administration for the insurers and policyholder.

When the declaration is submitted, the insurance company calculate the cost of the fleet over the agreed period depending on how fleet numbers have changed. The premium is adjusted and the policyholder pays - or is credited - the difference.

Motor Insurance Data Base

With a declaration policy the onus is on the policyholder to keep the MID (Motor Insurance Data Base) up to date with all vehicles being added or deleted from a declaration fleet policy. The Policyholder must register the vehicles as being in their possession within 14 days of ownership on the MID. For further information as to rules and regulations please visit the MID website.

Mixed Fleet Insurance

Mixed Fleets

We can provide fleet insurance for companies who operate solely car fleets, commercial vehicle fleets or large commercial vehicles and trucks.

We can also provide insurance for mixed fleets. For instance a manufacturing firm which has cars for their salesman and directors, vans for there delivery drivers and HGV's for delivery of large plant or supplies can be catered for under one policy.

Directors vehicles

Director owned vehicles can normally be included in a company fleet as long as they are declared as being owned by the directors personally. This way the vehicles get the added benefit of the driving restriction on the fleet policy, which is normally any driver.

Mixed Cover

You can have different levels of cover on different vehicles. This means that you if you have a motor fleet with new and old cars on then you can have comprehensive cover on certain vehicles and third party fire and theft on others if you feel the value no longer warrants comprehensive. This will reduce your overall premium.

What driving restrictions are available?

Most Fleet policies are issued on an Any Driver basis.

The age restriction can be selected by the policyholder but of course the younger you go the more expensive it gets. You normally would get an option from the following:

♦ Any Driver over 35
♦ Any Driver over 30
♦ Any Driver over 25
♦ Any Driver over 21
♦ Any Driver Any Age

If you take a motor fleet policy out with a driver age restriction and you have one or two drivers under that age don't worry. Rather than pay the higher premiums for any driver any age you can name the younger drivers on the policy at an extra cost. This is normally a lot less than the extra you pay to have any driver any age.

Young drivers on a policy will always carry an additional excess. This can vary from company to company so always refer to your policy schedule. The additional excess applies to drivers aged between 21-24 and under 21.
